The blood represents us being washed by the blood of Jesus. The cat-of-nine tails being pulled through the blood a picture of the scripture “by His stripes you were healed”. These picture symbols come from the meaning behind the word according to Strong’s Concordance: to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively): – heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.

We then scaled back to a simpler design. We still felt the design was really cool given all of the symbolism of the blood, thorny crown, sword, shofar, etc.
